Ad Hoc / Trimet Committee Report
Submitted by chasland on Fri, 07/09/2010 - 10:37.At the June 16th meeting of this special committee for the Lincoln St. Light Rail project, the group had a pre-liminary discussion with TriMet reps on various ways TriMet might acquire AP land needed for the project. A follow-up meeting is planned for July 14 to clarify questions and prepare recommendations for the AP Board. TriMet was also asked to do a cross section drawing to show the border between AP property and the project.
The federal deadline for submitting the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been moved to July, giving TriMet more time to evaluate noise and vibration levels. Lincoln Tower residents who live on the north side of the tower are urged to contact DeeAnn Sandberg (503-962-2273, or SandberD@TriMet.org) to set up a visit to check out noise/vibration issues in their condos.
Sivers Pool Renovation
Submitted by chasland on Fri, 07/09/2010 - 10:28.Coming soon, July or August, the Sivers Pool will be closed for repairs and resurfacing. When the exact dates are known, they will be posted.
The pool will need to be drained, repaired, resurfaced, then refilled and the water heated. This should take about 2 weeks. The ground around the building needs to be dried out before pool draining is safe.
For the interval, Water Aerobics classes will move to the outdoor pool. Come join the class for good exer-cise and fun fellowship. Tuesdays. and Thursdays, classes are at 8:15 – 9:30 am or 6:15 – 7:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the Lincoln pool is open. Exert all your powers to warm up the air and give us an occasional sun break.
Alan Hoffer: Teacher For All Ages
Submitted by chasland on Fri, 07/09/2010 - 09:41.A busy person, retired for only 10 years, Alan Hoffer is the newest member of the APCA Board of Directors. Laid low by a rupture to an Achilles tendon shortly after moving to Lincoln Tower a little over a year ago, his pace was slowed but not his perspectives and activities. A warm smile, a person who teaches by his manner, a thinker and a “doer,” Alan was a high school teacher and then a university mathematics professor who shares with us his desire for opportunities to learn and contribute. Starting to run marathons at 50 might not be for the faint of heart, but Alan started in Chicago, then Hawaii, and at 72 finished his last marathon in Portland.
